Revision started in 2018
With the relatively recent rapid expansion of the LNG fleet, this second edition provides up to date guidance on the minimum standards to which officers should be trained and reference to the knowledge that underpins it.
These standards are a guide for the industry, and their implementation and adoption is not mandatory. However, they have been produced after consulting with the industry and represent the default best practice operational training standards for officers on board LNG vessels.
The standards were written using competence-based methodology, which is used by the STCW and throughout the industry in general. They cover all officer ranks on LNG vessels, including electricians and cargo engineers. They should be used to ensure that a common standard of minimum training is present throughout the industry.
